As post war America began adjusting to a "normal" life, returnees and civilians alike were anxious to begin enjoying the prospect of peace and freedom, which included freedom on the road "Harley Style". After a number of years of producing untold thousands of machines of varying styles specifically for the military, 1946 marked the first year of civilian only motorcycles for the motor company, and this model of machine could have been considered the top of the line for the solo performance rider.

This motorcycle in particular is a very well done restoration of a post war classic. From the powder coating of the frame, to the sheathing of the wiring, much detail has gone into maintaining the originality of the machine as it was offered from the dealer sixty years ago. Is it perfectly accurate, not really. Is it a beauty to behold, yes indeed. The cost of performing a restoration such as this can be exorbitant, even more so if ultimate originality is to be achieved.

The value of this machine is difficult to ascertain due to the absence of comparable bikes offered for sale at the time of the appraisal. This bike is one of 1800 built in that year, and it is difficult to know how many have survived until now. Of those that have survived, this one is sure to be one of the better kept ones.
